A - Who the fuck are Special Move? Well, we have been going
for about 7 years, something like that and we still do the
same things that we did back then, play gigs, sweat, drink
beer, fuck about and listen to hardcore. Its all good!
There have been many rumours about how we started and I
would like to clear this up now. We formed when there was a
massive clash between the gods in Valhalla and the ogre of
the swap sent us to the earth to kick ass. We feel we have
only half achieved this goal and until the day we reach our
destiny there will be much more blood, sweat and beers.
Q - the uk scene has always been pretty strong, do you
think the bands need more coverage for the amazing work
they do?
A - Bands that are good enough and determined enough will get
good coverage in the UK. There is plenty of activity up and
down the country and there are always friendly faces willing
to put bands on, feed them, drink with them and put them up
for the night.
Q - what bands would you say are really blowing up
in the ukhc scene right now and which bands are your
favourites?
A - Two newish bands that are worth a mention are TRC &
Prowler who are destroying things around London at the
moment. I just got the new TRC cd from www.Rucktion.com and
its fat. Powerful hardcore with some hip hop, people need
to hear London's future!
Other bands we got that are blowing shit up are Six Ft Ditch
- who are ruling pits everywhere, Blades of Unity, Ninebar,
Kartel, Deathskulls, 50 Caliber, Wives of Seth...Christ the
list goes on! Oh yeah, also check out Divide from Scotland
as well, these guys are old skool heroes but they're not
very good at football!!!!!
Q - are your influences mainly from UK bands or
US bands?
A - We can't really narrow down our main influences. I think
we are influenced by a perfusion of styles of music from
around the world. I mean, styles like hip hop, thrash
metal, ukhc, dub, Albanian folk and calypso. As for
hardcore, we have spent many pound notes on cds from the UK,
the US and across Europe for many years and will continue to
do so in the future. Especially when the prowler cd comes
out!
Q - where do you think and where would you like
to see the ukhc scene going in the next few years?
A - Hardcore shows are pretty good at the moment, we seem to
get a good mixed bill and plenty of people at them
regularly. Its all friendly, unless you play next to an
England Football supporters pub. Everyone seems to be doing
something for each other and keeping the unity alive!! In
the next few years I think we would all like to see a more
positive outlook to hardcore, more bands from north and
south playing together and all those kids who are at the
madball shows coming to the smaller shows and giving a bit
of money back to the people who are always losing it. I
think it would also be an advantage if there were more fruit
machines at venues.
Q - more respect than they should and which side of the
atlantic, musically, do you prefer and why?
A - Some US bands tend to have an awareness attatched to them
but at the end of the day, you don't get something for
nothing. If bands work hard at what they do they normally
get the respect they deserve, weather they are from the
Bronx or Braintree. If an overseas band were to play here,
perhaps there would be more people turn up to a show, but
for obvious reasons they don't play here every week like a
lot of local bands do. Its like watching a Sylvia Saint
video, if you watch it every day, as well as having a sore
wrist you're going to want to start watching other videos
but if you haven't seen it for a while, then its the best
shit you have seen. As for which do we prefer, this
question is too hard to answer. There are good
videos....err bands wherever you want to find them, you just
need to dig deep into the box to find them.
